The International Christian Medical Institute (Canada) is a Christian, non-profit, charitable organization that provides development education and training in Uganda. The Institute relies on members, donors and volunteers to accomplish its goal.

Goal   
The primary goal of the International Christian Medical Institute (ICMI) is to provide development education and training for Ugandan health care workers.

"...accepting the Lordship of Jesus Christ we attempt to follow His example of compassion and healing...and embrace His concern for the whole person."

 

 

Task

  • Providing a Bachelor of Administrative Studies (BAS) degree in co-operation with Uganda Christian University (UCU)

  • Providing an academic programme in Uganda leading to a Diploma in Health Administration.

  • Organizing Continuing Medical Education workshops and seminars for Ugandan doctors.

  • Organizing Continuing Nursing Education workshops and seminars for Ugandan nurses.

  • Providing computer training for Ugandan health workers.

  • Co-operating with and assisting Ugandan medical providers in projects to meet specific health needs in TB, cardiology, paediatrics and palliative care.

  • Organizing continuing education workshops for Canadian health care providers. 

Accomplishments

  • Established a diploma course in health administration

  • Established a degree course in health administration

  • Trained 400 health workers at the diploma level since 1993

  • Trained 35 health workers at the degree level

  • Established a 4000 volume medical and management library- for picture (Click here)

  • Established a 14 station computer laboratory.

  • Recruited a Ugandan doctor as full-time Programme Coordinator.

  • Provided continuing medical and nursing education for over 850 Ugandan doctors and nurses.

  • Established a computer training programme for health providers.

  • Trained 10 Ugandan graduates as teachers in the Health Administration programme- for pictures (Click here)

  • Recruited 65 Canadian volunteers to assist in the programme
